My name is John Mill and I have been a member of Alton Lions Club (CIO) since 2016.
After moving to Alton, a number of years ago my wife Annette and I wanted to get to know people in the town and take part in the community. After trying a number of other activities which didn’t quite fit the bill as I work full time, three years ago, a card was dropped in our letterbox from Alton Lions Club (CIO). Annette and I had seen Alton Lions in the town at weekends but had no idea what they really did, but they seemed to be a central part of the community.
As I work mainly in London in the construction industry, which can mean long hours, Alton Lions helps me to maintain a better work life balance. As a health and safety professional for more than twenty years I am only too happy to bring elements from my working life into the operation of the club. In doing so I have come across different health and safety aspects such as Bouncy Castles.
Annette and I have made some great friends since becoming Lions and we try and attend as many social events as possible. The great thing about being a Lions is I can give as much or as little time as I want and can fit this around my ever-changing work commitments.
